Description
The asalato, also known as the aslatua or kashaka, is a traditional West African percussive instrument. Pronounced a-sla-to.
The asalato is played by running the string between the middle and index finger and holding one pod in your palm. Shake the pod in your palm while swinging the other pod over and under to hit each other to create shimmery shaker sounds and rhythmic clacks at the same time.
These asalato pods are constructed from sawdust bound with a resin making them very durable and giving them a light, warm shaking sound.Â
The nature of the instrument playing two independent rhythms at the same time makes it capable of creating complex polyrhythms all from one hand.Â
Price is for one asalato (2 x balls on 1 string)
